SHE BUILDS PEACE CAMPAIGN LAUNCH



Reach Out Cameroon, in prelude to the SHE BUILDS PEACE Campaign has launched it campaign in Buea chief down of the Southwest Region holding at the hall premises of the Pan African Institute for Development-West Africa, PAID-WA on Wednesday February 9, 2022.

The campaign which is championed by the International Civil society Action Network (ICAN), aims to reinforce and reiterate the critical role women can play in fostering the Women Peace and Security (WPS) agenda.


She Builds Peace is a global collaborative campaign to support women peace-builders to soar, by ensuring their safety and protection, fulfilling obligations to make peace and security inclusive, and appreciating and resourcing the critical work women peace-builders do to build a future in which all can flourish. 

Since March 2020, over 30 members of the Women’s Alliance for Security Leadership (WASL) across more than 25 countries have facilitated and launched events that promote peace and security. 

The launching which began with a word of prayer from the Imam of the Buea Central Mosque and the PCC Peace Office Coordinator Rev Williams Ntah, called on God Almighty for protection and guidance so as to bring success in the launching.  


The Executive Director of Reach (REO) Omam Esther in her welcome word, talked on the objectives of the launching of SHE BUILDS PEACE bringing reference from when they tried in solving crisis in the Bakassi Peninsular where Reach Out initiated the Peace processes in the Region, the Anglophone Crisis since 2016, accentuating 1325 though continuous women’s actions and localization of these actions, which till date is still to yield the required impact. 

Madam Omam calls on the women network to mainstream campaign activities by ensuring continuous participation lauding their voices in peace-building and mediation process.

The Regional Delegate of Women Empowerment and the Family MINPROFF Mme Sona nee Ediage Lucia Dipita refers to a woman as the general manager of a house. 

“A woman is the mother of the good, the bad and the ugly, you cannot give what you don’t have that is you cannot give peace if you are not at peace with yourself” the Regional Delegate said. 

The Ministry has been partnering with all NGOs in ensuring that there’s peace when it comes to the rights of a woman. The Regional Delegate takes 2022 as a better year as the cry for peace by women has created a positive impact in the Region and the Country at large.

In an interview with the Press, the Executive Director of Reach Out, Madam Omam Esther talks on the need for “peace as peace is you and peace is me”, “We cannot talk about peace without talking with the issues that led to peace. 


We want everyone to appreciate what women do; we won’t reliant on talking about peace, “She Builds Peace”.” Madam Omam Esther concluded


The one day launch of the SHE BUILDS PEACE campaign organized by Reach Out Cameroon, brings together women leaders in peace-building work within the region to create synergy with key government and humanitarian actors that will promote the role of women in peace-building within the South West Region and in Cameroon.

Reach Out Cameroon, is a woman-led organisation that focuses on the triple nexus: Peace Building, Humanitarian Relief, and Sustainable Development. Her activities of peace-building came to the limelight during peace negotiations in the era of the Bakassi crisis. 

This has been followed by many peaceful negotiations, participation in peace-building processes.
