Coming to Bamenda for the 2nd time in 10 years as Marion Obam and as National President of CJTU, 1st time in 20 years, in the life of the union, Marion Obam has made stunning appreciations that will live in comrades' hearts of the Northwest chapter.
Striving for balance and excellence in the practice of Journalism, the first female national president for the Cameroon Journalists Trade Union (CJTU) in the person of Marion Obam made it clear that she will stand by comrades of the Northwest region to better understand their problems, challenges and seek better solutions.
"We should not wait for people who live elsewhere to tell our own stories. Someone living in another town or country cannot best explain the challenges you are facing in your context. My team and I should discuss with you comrades of the Northwest region, understand your problems and seek for sustainable solutions", Marion Obam, CJTU's National President in Bamenda.
Recieved in the Northwest region by Governor Adolphe Lele Lafrique and Regional Communication's Delegate, Njike Celestine, was proof of the fact that Marion Obam is living up to expectations, walking the talk and executing all that she presented as her manifesto on CJTU's elections day June 25th 2022.
The governor was pleased to see a woman at the helm of the union, marvelled by her zeal to ensure that Journalists are protected while executing their functions. He likened the Journalist to a foot-soldier, who should be up at all moments in times, especially in a crisis situation, striving to make it right through reporting.
"I have always told journalists to do their best to strike a balance in their reporting. They should always ask themselves if their reports will calm down tempers or fuel conflict. I recieve calls from journalists everyday, I do my best to talk with them but I don't communicate with international media, because my context is local", Northwest Governor, Adolphe Lele Lafrique.
Accompanied by the Union's Secretary General, Hilaire Hamekoue, Marion Obam emphasized on the promotion of credible, responsible and patriotic journalism practices. While stating that she has a commitment to ensure that both English and French are used for effective communication during her mandate.
