Cameroon - International Day of Peace 2021, takes place under the theme "Getting up, for a more equitable and sustainable world". Celebrated every September 21 of the year, a preparation meeting gearing up to celebration day is hosted at the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education (MINJEC).
Chaired by the Inspector General of Programs and Teaching Methodology, Mr. SANDJOCK Mark Armand, MINJEC has as objective to assess the state of preparation for International Peace Day 2021 and to ensure its effective planning throughout the national territory.
He reminded attendees that the meeting was a technical working session; attended by representatives of international organizations, representatives of partner ministries, representatives of civil society.
Mr. Biloa Antoine, Head of Services at the Directorate of Civic Education and National Integration, opened the session with statistics and an appraisal of how activities unfolded across the National Territory, requesting that the Department of Civic Education and National Integration should work in collaboration with UN Women for the preselection of young people who will be trained during the celebration.
While presenting the chronogram project, it was revealed that it was impy to build capacities of young men and women leaders on gender equality and the rights of women and girls from September 13 to 14, 2021 in the East / Batouri Region.
With a view to strengthen the values of Peace, Living Together and Social Cohesion from September 13 to 19, 2021 at UNESCO Headquarters.
In prelude to the International Day for Peace, there will be an official launch of the #HeForShe Campaign at the Military Stadium on September 17, 2021 and the Signing of an MoU between UNESCO and MINJEC on September 20, with Educational conversations around the theme chosen for the 2021 edition of the celebration.
Other activities in preparation bto celebrating Peace Day will be the mobilization of young people in schools for the promotion of peace; Organizing Hangouts with young people throughout the National territory under the Presidency of MINJEC.
The Head of the Capacity Building Unit of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Center transmits the DDR Centre's draft Program as a prelude to the celebration.
He specified in particular that the DDR wishes to organize activities which will mobilize the ex-combatants during this celebration, allow them to express their feelings, to encourage those still in the bush to step out and benefit from the offers of the DDR centers.
"I add that the purpose of the activity is to contribute to the realization of the vision of the Head of State H.E. Paul BIYA, to promote peace in Cameroon." DDR representative.
MINESEC sought to know how many students should be mobilized as a prelude to the celebration and what clothing is expected of them. Mr. Biloa Antoine, Head of Service at the Directorate of Civic Education and National Integration, being a member of the scientific committee, indicates that a concept note will be given to them containing the organizational arrangements.
That will further enlighten them on the exact number of expected students, with a concept note similar to that adopted in 2019 by which mobilized over 1,200 schools.
ANAFOOT in turn wanted to know if the training session placed under the coordination of MINJEC and UN-Women is the same session intended for young participants of ANAFOOT who must undergo training during the celebration.
Training session intended to train the young participants of ANAFOOT mobilizes 30 young leaders whose training session will take place in Batouri while the other training session mobilizes 15 boys and 15 girls who will be trained on gender equality.
Representative of the Minister of Youth and Civic Education, MOUNOUNA FOUTSOU, reiterated the importance of mobilizing young Cameroonians around issues related to peace while he calls them to stay in this spirit for the success of the celebration.
