Mayor Chenwi Peter Highlights Accomplishments in Bamenda II Council's Four-Year Tenure



In a press conference held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, the Mayor of Bamenda II Council, Chenwi Peter, presented a comprehensive overview of the projects and achievements accomplished during his four-year tenure. The conference provided a platform for Mayor Peter to address the public and shed light on his administration's accomplishments.

Since his election into office in March 2020, Mayor Chenwi Peter has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents and fostering development within the Bamenda II Council. During the press conference, he highlighted the significant strides made across various sectors, including infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare.

Under Mayor Peter's leadership, the Bamenda II Council initiated a multitude of infrastructure projects that have enhanced the urban landscape of the region. These projects include the construction and renovation of bridges(Akaka Bridge Newbell Atuakom, bridge at Fowah Mbatu)and public buildings (Community hall Ntambag, Mulang community Hall, Bamenda II council logding facility Ntambag).


Working on improving transportation connectivity and accessibility for the local population By getting more council equipments.


In the education sector, the Mayor proudly announced the establishment of several new schools and the renovation of existing educational facilities such as G.S Ntambag , construction of a nursery school and 2 classrooms at Mbatu . 



These efforts were aimed at ensuring that children in Bamenda II have access to quality education and a conducive learning environment. Additionally, Mayor Chenwi support academically gifted students by donating buckets,chairs , other supplies at G.S Chomba and Also provided back-to-school assistance to Pupils and students from disadvantaged backgrounds such IDPs, and PWDs benefit hence fostering inclusivity and equal opportunities within the council.

The healthcare sector also witnessed significant improvements under Mayor Peter's tenure. He highlighted the construction of an extension of a lab and maternity ward at Ntankah health center, Donation of modern medical equipment and supplies to Azire, Alabukam, Alamandom and Chomba Health Centers. These initiatives aimed to enhance healthcare services and to address the health needs of the local population effectively.
Social actions weren't undermined,

Given the fact that elections are coming up 2025, Civiclens couldn't help but wonder if this report was a campaign strategy to rally more voters and Mayor Peter Chenwi addressed this during the press conference.

"We were elected to serve and we are soon moving into another election next year. You can't move into another election without presenting to the electorates and the community what you have accomplished and what you intend to achieve for them in the future ".

While Mayor Chenwi Peter celebrated the accomplishments of his administration, he acknowledged the challenges faced during his tenure. Notably, the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator (PIC) recognized the Bamenda II Council as one of the best-managed councils in the region.
