Mid Term Evaluation : Belo Council Responds to the Needs of Persons Living With Disability

The socio-political upheavals in the English speaking regions of the country has had a serious toll on persons living with disability who reside in majority of the villages in the North West region.

Belo sub division of Boyo division is not left out, as PLWDs have had to suffer from little or poor treatment and or abandoned by their families and loved ones as a result of their present state.

The Mayor of Belo council, Ngong Innocent after listening to the cry of persons with disability decided to dedicate the evaluation of the mid-term session of the Belo council, in order to put smiles on the faces of some Persons with disabilities (PWDs) around his municipality.

“The idea is to increase the morbidity of the PWDs, so that they can be able to go about their economic activities without needing so much assistance”, Mayor Ngong Innocent explained. He added that gestures to support these persons will come from the Head of State, President Paul Biya in the days ahead, which will be distributed via their associatios.

These persons living with disability have always cried foul of being ignored by society, given no preference as far as addressing their needs is concerned, Mayor Ngong Innocent stressed that councils should include their needs, making their needs a priority when drawing up their yearly budget.

"We have started with PLWDs, we will touch other sectors of the society, reaching them in a peaceful and charitable manner. We have handed over materials; some disability inputs such as white canes, crushes, blankets and wheel chairs”. Mayor Ngong Innocent highlighted.

This occasion holding at the Belo council hall, dedicated to the evaluation of the mid-term management of the Belo council for this current year, the Senior Divisional Officer for Boyo Fidel Teni while chairing proceedings, officially installed the mayor and deputies as well as councilors of the Belo council.

The SDO during the session challenged council authorities to see into it that the Belo council scores a 100% execution of the Public Investment Projects(PIP) at the end of the financial calendar, as well as other projects with development partners.

According to the SDO, if efforts are harnessed and projects executed at a 100%, this will prepare the ground works for the successful takeoff of the ring-road project, expected to serve as a major boost for economic development of the subdivision.

This execution is understood to be a veritable medium to reach out to locals within the context of an effective decentralization plan. “People use to leave Bamenda for Belo just to eat roosted meat. I urge councilors to preach by example, refrain from sitting and praying, but carry out actions for a return to normalcy. With such a commitment taken, councilors and the administration will achieve a great Belo again”.

Mayor of Belo Council

Mayor Ngong told councillors "the sum of over 250million francs CFA received by the Belo council for the execution of PIB for 2021, is on the right development footing, however only at the end of the year shall we be able to come out with the percentage realization but ”.

During the evaluative session, the municipal authority encouraged councilors to return to their respective localities and identify projects in collaboration with the village heads for the council to find ways to execute as well as aid in the follow-up of the projects in their communities.

The slogan making Belo great again instituted and highlighted by the Mayor during the session is said to have started taking credence from the quality of executed projects already visible in the municipality.

“As far as projects are concerned, in health, we renovated the Tumuku health center, recruited 30 workers that will be sent to work in Djichami, Tumuku and Mejang health centers. The bridges in Muwa, Ntungfe and Sowi are near completion while the Djichami to Ndawara grading is soon to start, the Belo-Njikfuin, Aboh and Mbessa roads are under construction with the support of LIFIDEF and other partners.”

The Mayor pointed out that p
rojects will transform Belo into a construction site.

With school resumption looming , the Belo council authorities is leaving no one behind. The Council has plans to increase the number of pupils who attended school last academic year and to start the distribution process of school didactics; for school going kids while parents are been encouraged by the Belo council authorities to fulfill their own part of the bargain in order to facilitate the process.
