Mayor Dighambong Anthony of Wum Council has once again reiterated at the Community Dialogue, Launched by the PM in Bamenda, that the people of Menchum are pleading for: The Bamenda-Wum Road to be done and the need for electricity to be restored in Menchum Division.
He says this is not the first time these particular issues have been raised but is hopeful that the initiative of the Community Dialogue may hasten the steps of government to realize these "long-pending" projects.
"The people have continued to demonstrate their commitment to peace, unity, and cooperation despite the many challenges facing our communities. We appreciate the spirit of collaboration among our people, political leaders, and other stakeholders".
"We continue to face several challenges that require urgent attention. One of the concerns raised relates to the difficulties experienced by some communities over a period of nine years. Menchum has not had electricity for over 9 years and the story of the Bamenda-Wum road has become a sing song. We pray that government looks into the plight of the Menchum People", Mayor Dighambong Anthony - Wum Council.
He also called for government's attention to the condition of hospitals and roads, particularly in border communities, where these facilities are essential to the well-being and development of the population.
"As we move forward, we hope that the programmes already announced will be implemented as planned. Our children and young people are waiting for opportunities that will improve their lives and secure their future".
Mayor Dighambong mentioned that the university plays an important role in ensuring that students have access to education and appealled to the Vice-Chancellor to help create an environment where students can pursue their studies without facing discrimination or being turned away.
"We appreciate the efforts being made and the work currently underway. We also wish to make a special appeal concerning our students and the need to promote peace in our communities".
The Mayor encouraged everyone in Menchum to be able to communicate amongst themselves, remain united, and pray for lasting peace.
