The Governor of the Northwest region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique will on January 22nd 2020 install the Regional Council President, the Vice and the 8 man commission who will handle the affairs of the Regional Council.
The office of the Regional Council will be at the Regional Delegation of Tourism, with the office of Tourism moving to the Regional Delegation of Transport. This structure exist at Upstation Bamenda adjacent CRTV radio station.
The Government, following the directives of the Head of State, will be implementing the special status and other recommendations made during the Major National Dialogue for the speedy return to normalcy in the restive North West and South West Regions of Cameroon.
Local representatives voted regional councilors on December 6th 2020 in all 10 regions, which is now made up of delegates and traditional rulers. It puts into action a 1996 law that promised a decentralised government but was never enacted.
Since 2016, the regions which comprise Cameroon’s minority Anglophone area have been in conflict with the central French-speaking government over growing requirements to use French in the legal and education systems.

As a step to remedy the situation and put the Anglophone problem to rest, the Regional structure is now reality. It is worth noting that More than 3,000 people have been killed in Cameroon's anglophone crisis and about 500,000 people have been forced out of their homes due to the conflict.
