Mobile Money Saves Taxi Drivers the Stress

The unavailability of coins have caused some Taxi Drivers in Bamenda, Northwest region to use mobile money services in order to make more money and ease the movement of their customers.

Some of these Taxi Drivers collect fare for carrying a passenger through mobile money without any charges added. This was a quick observation made by this reporter in a discussion with one of the taxi drivers in town.

"To make it easy, I collect money from passengers through mobile money, especially when the person has no coins but needs to move. It is much more easier, else we will be forced to loose customers and make less profits everyday". A Taxi driver speaks to Journalist off record.

While some taxi drivers have taken upon themselves to collect transport fare through these mobile money services, other individuals are selling cash. Some sell every 900frs cash for 1000frs.

Speaking to an owner of a provision store she says, she doesn't "make much gain in her buisness and it is difficult to develop and interest in negotiating for cash".
