Bafut Mayor Supports NW Young Footballers through Futsal Maiden Edition



The Ngwakongoh Lawrence Regional Futsal Tournament, has revealed hidden talents in youths, as they took part in a football competition in the Northwest region.


According to the Cup Donor who doubles as the Mayor of Bafut, International, National and other veteran players have gone through Futsal competition before reaching their dreams in football. 



He told those who participated in the competition that he is ready to support the 2nd edition of the Futsal Competition.

"The coming of Futsal has brought out the hidden talents in our youths, hoping that in some years to come we will have players if the national team coming from the Northwest region through Futsal. I congratulate all those who have participated in this competition and we are ready to support you through the next edition". Mayor of Bafut, Cup Donor.


The competition lasted from May-June, had teams like Anafoot and All Stars Bamenda; Anafoot beat All Stars 8#5 in the finals played on June 12th at Army Camp in Bamenda.

All Stars was about 70% of ball pocession yet Anafoot carved their way through to the poles that had them take home the trophy. The President of Fecafoot NW, Mbigha Felix who doubles as the Mayor for Bamenda I said the game was a good one and the teams are promising.

"Futsal is a competition, promoting this aspect of football in the region will mean it is expected that Futsal will a good ompetition in the Regional league".



The Cup Donor, who doubles as Mayor of Bafut use the Maiden Edition of the Futsal competition and urged players to come to the Regional President of FECAFOOT NW Incase of any need, so that assistance can be given.


Barista Nana Wilson Nsuh, Regional President Futsal said Futsal is a new discipline and will have need for a training serminar, so that gradually everything will fall in place.

"Futsal is a new game introduced in the Northwest region. We have a regional bureau and we are still in the process of setting up a bureau in the division and sub divisions. So far this is our first competition, thanks to the sponsor, The Mayor of Bafut who offered this Cup."

"We need alot of galvanization, having a training serminar, to train football sporting clubs in the region. FECAFOOT has made it mandatory for all first and second division teams to have futsal teams so they can use it as training".


According to the Regional President of Futsal, challenges have been enormous but "thanks to the Regional coordinator, Mr Nfuh Alfred and the Regional Secetary Futsal who is also a national refree; orgarnizing the competition was a success, especially at the technical level there is some progress but we will improve more as time goes on."


Cash prizes and certificates were given to players, match officials and also to individual persons who proved outstanding in the course of the competition.
