The 15th session of the North West General Assembly's ordinary session, held from July 22-23, 2024 in Bamenda, focused on the 2025 budget orientation debate and an update on the first semester of 2024's performance.
The various committees of the Assembly discussed the budget and brought up their observations. "We attained our objectives, the first being that after additional funding from the government, we adjusted our budget, which will allow us to function properly throughout the year," said the President of the Regional Assembly, Professor Fru Angwafor.
The session also saw the deliberation and appointment of chairpersons for the management committees of the region's two regional hospitals and district hospitals, as well as a member of the regional health promotion fund.
Additionally, the Assembly discussed allowances for the regional treasury staff and the secretariat general, and held interactive training sessions that led to the creation of a committee for national languages and communication, which will work with the regional communication agency.
The president of the Regional Assembly emphasized the need to readjust the funds and the importance of collective action to ensure quality data.
Menyong Laurence, a councilor, stated that the session had a significant impact on their council and brought them closer to the people, correcting some past mistakes.
Before any school construction, the Assembly stressed the need to study the wind direction to avoid future destruction and the use of quality materials that can withstand the elements. They also encouraged afforestation to help direct the wind.
The session concluded with the president looking forward to the maturation of the shared projects and further encouraging afforestation.
