Developments in Bafut: Mayor Lawrence Shares Progress and Future Plans



In a recent evaluation meeting on March 27th, Mayor Ngwakongoh Lawrence announced some impressive financial accomplishments for the 2024 fiscal year, with a total of 610,229,108 francs secured for various projects.

During the meeting, Mayor Lawrence highlighted several key achievements that have positively impacted the community. Notably, the youth empowerment space providing essential resources for local youth.

Additionally, a road pavement project worth 100 million francs has been completed, along with a fully operational government school that is already serving pupils. The hospital in Nchum has also seen significant improvements.

The Mayor revealed that Bafut Council is also rolling out new development initiatives, including the construction of ramps in public buildings like hospitals to ensure accessibility for all. 

There are plans to supply medical equipment to various hospitals and further build government schools equipped with ramps for individuals living with disabilities. Additionally, the grading of roads in several communities is on the agenda.

In a move to support local agriculture, the council will distribute improved maize seeds to farmers, including those living with disabilities. 


Ambe Richard, president of the groups representing individuals with disabilities in Bafut, expressed gratitude for the seeds but emphasized the need for more to adequately support the hundreds of individuals in the community. 


He also reassured attendees that Bafut is not the hostile environment some may perceive.

In closing, Mayor Lawrence encouraged the Bafut community to unite in support of President Paul during this election year, highlighting the importance of collaboration for continued progress.
