Residents of Old Town Bamenda urged to Prioritize Unity and Development

Felix Mbayu, head of the Mezam Divisional Campaign for the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), has called on the people of Old Town in Bamenda II not to let religious differences influence their choice in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for Sunday, October 12, 2025.

Addressing a massive crowd during a CPDM rally on Saturday, October 11, 2025, Mbayu appealed to the population—especially young people—to reject any calls for violence before, during, or after the polls.

“When you vote, remember that your personal and national interests come before religion,” he said, warning residents to disregard anyone attempting to disrupt the electoral process.

Mbayu explained that the CPDM’s mission in Old Town was to educate the population on President Paul Biya’s accomplishments and his vision for the country’s continued progress. He urged everyone to turn out and vote overwhelmingly for President Biya on election day.

Appeal for Peace and Responsible Citizenship

Acknowledging that elections in several parts of Africa have often been marred by violence, Mbayu emphasized the need to maintain calm and unity in Cameroon. He cautioned young people against allowing themselves to be manipulated by individuals with divisive motives.

“Do not let anyone use you. Some people are spreading threats online, but I assure you there will be no unrest. Parents should keep their children from joining any protests—nothing will start in Old Town or Bamenda,” he said.

To those planning to cause trouble, Mbayu warned: “Stop hiding behind the Internet to push young people into chaos; no one will respond to you.”

He reaffirmed that Cameroonians would vote peacefully and later celebrate the victory of their chosen candidate.

Minister Mbayu's Birthplace, Inspires hope

Returning to his birthplace, Minister Felix Mbayu—fondly known as Abakwa Boy—stood before the people of Old Town not just as a government official, but as one of their own who had risen through hard work and perseverance.

With emotion, he told his audience that his story is proof that greatness can emerge from humble beginnings. “From the streets of Old Town, anyone can achieve success,” he said, encouraging the youth to believe in themselves and strive for excellence.

Mbayu reminded them that their past does not define their future and that determination and faith can open doors to endless possibilities. His message left the crowd inspired, filled with renewed hope and belief in a brighter tomorrow.
