Traditional Leaders Pay Tribute to Former Prime Minister, Achidi Achu

While awaiting the arrival of his mortal remains in Yaoundé on June 30, 2021, a tribute was paid to him by the traditional leaders of the North-West, South-West, Center and South Regions, on Sunday, June 13 at his residence in Yaoundé.

This was in the presence of his wife “Mafor” Judith Yah Sunday, the current Managing Director of Camtel (Cameroon telecommunications) as well as friends and acquaintances. A tribute rich in moving testimonies.

He died in the United States on May 4, 2021 as a result of illness, Simon Achidi Achu begins his last trip on June 30, 2021 with the arrival of his mortal remains in Cameroon.

 July 2 is the start of the official funeral which will end with his burial in Santa subdivision in Mezam, Northwest region of Cameroon on July 3, 2021. 

It is therefore as a prelude to this great event that the family, under the leadership of his wife, organized the tribute ceremony with the traditional chiefs of the North-West, South-West, Central and South Cameroon Regions.


Several personalities took the floor to give testimonies. This is the case of Fon Teche Njei from Ngyen-Muwa, Fon Chafah Isaac from Bangolan, Mafor Kisob, SM Tchalla Djomo Guy, SM Effa and many other dignitaries who took part in this ceremony tribute marked by traditional dances from the Northwest Region.

From the various testimonies, the former Prime Minister Achidi Achu, when he was Head of Government, visited all corners of the North-West, with a message of peace at each descent on the ground.

 “We the traditional leaders are with you. May the ancestors continue to protect you ” declared these dignitaries.

 Many people recognized that Pa Simon Achidi Achu was "a man of peace" who "loved people". According to them, he was not just a politician but "a great man" who was adored everywhere. 

Achidi Achu left a mark on the people with his "greatness." The traditional chiefs therefore implored the ancestors to be able to accept it in their environment.

This man, very close to the people, even the common people recognized this.
His wife, Judith Yah Sunday,  said her illustrious husband worked hard and had a sense of sharing.

 “He was the father of all children,a father to everyone,” Widow Achidi said.

 She thanked the Head of State, Paul Biya for allowing her husband get proper medication; when the former Prime Minister fell seriously ill, the President of the Republic had provided the family with a medical plane for an urgent evacuation in France, thus saving his life. 

This time the disease got the better of him. As a reminder, Simon Achidi Achu begins his last trip to earth with the arrival in Cameroon of his mortal remains on June 30th, then Head to Santa in the Northwest Region where he will be buried on July 3, 2021.
