Omam Njomo Esther, Executive Director of Reach Out Cameroon walks through the hall of Fame of African heroines, as the Minister for the Promotion of Women and the Family, Yaoundé-Cameroon points out her work in Women Peace, Security Agenda-WPS and humanitarian response.
The recognition took place in Yaoundé, was presided over by the Minister of Minproff inline with the commemoration of the 60th Edition of the Pan African woman. This renews the confidence in self, as she renews committement to continue fighting gender bias
Esther Omam amongst other women has been described as a woman fighting on a daily basis for the valorisation and emancipation of women in Cameroon after Delphine Tsanga and Alpine Ekotto.
"If the woman of tomorrow must take her rightful place alongside her male counterparts, then this generation must stand up and realize women's rights."
Given the context in which the NGO carries out it's activities is an armed conflict region, she recounts the effects of the Anglophone crisis on women and children, especially young girls.
Recognizing the efforts of her staff and board of directors who surpass challenges on a daily basis to give assistance to vulnerable women and children.
"..This award is equally for all men out there who understand that gender equality and recognition of women's rights is a prerequisite for growth both at community and national level".
"...I have the responsibility to fight against gender based violence and end all forms of discrimination against women and the girl child. Increase effective and meaningful participantion of women in decision making bodies." Esther Omam, in Yaounde.
Done on the 60th Edition, on the day of the African woman under the theme; "Building women's human capital for an inclusive sustainable development: tracking the scourge of violence while improving food security and good nutrition in Africa", speaks of Esther Omam's undiluted love to see women empowered.
