A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed in Yaoundé during a ceremony chaired by the Minister of Youth and Civic Education (Minjec) Mounouna Foutsou and in the presence of other members of the government.
This was between MINJEC and IOM, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), targeting several aspects for the growth of the youth community in Cameroon.
These areas include, among others, the establishment of mechanisms aimed at facilitating voluntary return, readmission, sustainable reintegration, care and health monitoring of young returning migrants, internally displaced persons, former associates of armed groups.
This concerns displaced persons, victims of trafficking or smuggling, where the mobilization of young entrepreneurs from the diaspora through the development of joint ventures with young local entrepreneurs will be encouraged.
The need to promote the participation of the Cameroonian diaspora in national development and peacebuilding; strengthening the capacities of actors involved in migration management, and educators in prevention and psychosocial support for young potential migrants, returning migrants, young people from communities affected by natural disasters and also preventing irregular migration.
The need of strengthening Pacific Coexistence and the empowerment of young internally displaced people from the regions is pertinent.
The MoU will further seal this connection between the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education and the IOM. Indeed, the event constitutes a major turning point in our collective approach aimed at promoting the well-being, integration and development of young people in our country and beyond our borders.
It aims to institutionalize and strengthen the collaborative links between our two structures in the field of support for returning migrants, mobile populations and young people from the Cameroonian diaspora, as well as in the promotion of peace and social cohesion.
